Departure

Well here I am in the departure lounge at Sydney airport waiting to board my first flight. We had a good run down from Maitland although the Sydney traffic really managed to slow us down it took about 90 minutes from the Sydney end of the F3 to the airport, I know I shouldn't whinge it could take up to double that on a bad day. Wasn't much of a queue to check in at VAustralia the biggest wait was for the gates to open.

Thank you to Johanna who checked me in a managed to check my luggage through all the way to Tallahassee which means I wont need to lug it round LAX for 5 hours. Strangely however I am only checked through to Fort Lauderdale and will need to get my extra boarding pass at either LAX or Fort Lauderdale.

I had a really good chicken pad thai on the landside of the airport and then went through customs quickly and easily. There have been some new development works at the airport both airside and landside and it looks great, best thing is there is heaps of variety especially food wise, I still remember the days at Sydney when there was an “Old School Cafeteria” complete with trays and a slide where you dutifully marched along for delicacies such as a prawn cocktail.

Today you can eat just about anything you could want or not want (I really don't think I'd risk sushi just before a 14 hours flight, don't get me wrong I love my sushi). NO FREE WIFI at Sydney airport, there is Wifi but you gotta pay. There are a few free kiosks where you can stand at a terminal and quickly check your email or update your facebook (I did both) but I can load this til I get access to Wifi. So for now it is saved on my trusty EPC. My battery is showing 93% and 11.13 hours of battery remaining, pretty cool considering it weighs less than 1.5kg.

See you all in LA.
